Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup tur dal
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp crushed Red chili
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp ginger chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic chopped
  • 1 green chili chopped
  • For garnishing chopped coriander leaves and ginger julienne
  • Salt as required

Instructions
 

  • Wash and soak Arhar Dal for 1 hour in the water.
  • Boil dal in about four cups of water, along with turmeric, salt, Cook till tender and well blended.
  • Heat oil in fry pan. Add cumin seeds. When they begin to splutter. Then add the ginger and garlic and saute for 10-12 seconds. Add the chopped onion and fry till transparent light brown. Add turmeric powder, red chili crushed and asafetida.
  • Add the tomatoes. Saute till the tomatoes become softened and oil separates from the spices now add dal and water, salt as you required stir and simmer the dal for 3 to 5 minutes
  • Garnish with coriander leaves, ginger julienne and green chili chopped.
  • Serve dal with Chapati Rice or parantha.
